One of Boarding at Westlake’s strong suit is the consistent academic support provided to the boarders. Boarding House Parents work very closely with teachers who send them weekly summaries of assignments so that they can monitor each boarder’s work. At the end of every term, they meet again to track students’ progress and discuss strategies and action plans to facilitate academic excellence.
Boarders’ homework assignments and revision are completed every evening during the scheduled Preparatory Time – a one and a half-hour block of focused study. Senior students have additional intensive study sessions on Sunday. In addition, once a week, school teachers hold Academic Coaching Sessions for boarders to focus on specific subjects once a week. For Boarders who may require further assistance, the school arranges one-to-one tutoring held within the boarding premises. Lastly, for our boarders to improve their effectiveness when studying, all new boarders attend study skills workshops covering practical skills such as active reading, annotating, note-taking, and memorisation.
